On this page, you can find detailed information about the project. Further questions are answered in online Q&A sessions. Only after these Q&A sessions you can schedule an interview appointment, necessary to participate in the program. The interviews are conducted by R2P Poland. It is mandatory to sign-up for an info-session if you wish to participate in the relocation!

The interviews are the basis of the data on which matches between protection seekers and cities are made. During your interview with R2P, you will discuss your needs and priorities in-person or online. You will also be asked to provide relevant information about yourself (and any family members you want to be relocated with). Meanwhile, participating cities are also asked about their capacities and needs.

Based on the information provided by you and the cities, the Re:Match algorithm computes the best match for you. We will inform you about the result and provide you with more information on the matched city. You have the final say on whether you’d like to accept the match.

After informing the city, we will organise your relocation together with you. We help you arrange your trip and provide you with information about the city and the local support structures.

Frequently Asked Questions

Children will be enrolled in local public schools, which are free of charge in Germany. Integration classes (Willkommensklassen) are available to help children learn German and settle in. Daycare (Kita) is also available and costs are covered or heavily subsidised for protection seekers. The Re:Match team will guide you through enrollment after arrival.

Yes. Schools in Germany offer integration support including language courses, buddy programmes, and counsellors. Many cities also have dedicated support structures for Ukrainian children specifically.

Ukrainian protection seekers who hold or are eligible for Temporary Protection status (under EU Directive 2001/55/EC) may apply. You should currently be living outside Germany and be willing to relocate to one of the participating German cities.

The algorithm takes into account your personal preferences, family situation, professional background, language skills, and specific needs, and matches them against the profiles of participating German cities — including available housing, job market, schools, and community infrastructure.

Yes. As a Temporary Protection holder you are entitled to health insurance coverage in Germany. You will be enrolled in the public health insurance system (gesetzliche Krankenversicherung), which covers doctor visits, hospital stays, prescriptions, and preventive care.

Yes. Many German cities have counselling services and psychosocial support centres available in Ukrainian or Russian. The Re:Match team can help connect you with relevant services in your assigned city.

You will receive Temporary Protection status under EU Directive 2001/55/EC, which grants you the right to legally reside in Germany, access the labour market, enrol your children in school, and use social services. This status is currently valid and has been extended by the EU.

Temporary Protection holders can generally travel within the EU. Extended stays outside Germany may affect your status — it is advisable to consult with a legal advisor or the local Ausländerbehörde before travelling for long periods.

Travel arrangements — including transportation from your current location to Germany and onward to the assigned city — are coordinated as part of the Re:Match process. Costs are covered by the programme. Details will be confirmed once your match is finalised.

You cannot directly choose your city, but the matching algorithm is designed to reflect your preferences as closely as possible. You will complete a detailed questionnaire and the algorithm will identify the best-fit city based on your answers. You will be informed of the proposed match before any decision is finalised.

Initial accommodation is arranged as part of the relocation package. Over time you will be supported in finding longer-term housing. The Re:Match team and local partners in your city will assist you with this transition.

Yes. Temporary Protection holders in Germany have the right to work. The Re:Match Job phase specifically focuses on matching you to cities with relevant labour market opportunities based on your professional skills and background.

As a Temporary Protection holder in Germany you are entitled to social benefits (Bürgergeld or equivalent), which cover basic living costs including rent, utilities, and a monthly allowance. Once you begin working, your income supplements or replaces these benefits.

“Everything was very fast and almost without any problems with the documents and paperwork. I mean, I was told where I need to go today and tomorrow. Everything was quickly arranged. As I hear from other people here, they suffered so much with the documents and the [enrolment to integration] courses.”
